Many universities are looking at revamping their storage solutions as a result of the massive growth of data generated in teaching and in research. In response the IT industry is offering more and more disruptive technologies to replace old technologies, but also creating ways to store and manage data. In this session, Huawei will share our understanding of key trends and requirements for storage as well as Huawei’s solutions to these challenges.   Some topics include:

  • Next Generation RAID Protection
  • Use of Erasure Coding in Storage Systems
  • The Evolution of Storage
  • SSD replacing Spinning disks
  • Software Defined Storage

You will see live demonstration of state-of-the-art storage systems, as well as gain practical advice on how to design and build your own storage solution in your area of the campus. Click here to register.

About the Presenter: TeeHong Lim is ‎IT Product Manager at Huawei Canada, where he works with clients who are exploring and implementing the next generation of solutions based on state-of-the-art storage technology. He has worked on storage solutions for several clients at the University of Toronto and other Canadian universities. Click here to register.

InfoTech seminar: Building an Agile Campus Network

Date:                        Thursday, July 21st 2016.

Time:                       11:00 – 13:00

Location:               Room 244 at University College Click here to register.

Many universities are looking at using software-defined networking (SDN) to build an agile campus network. You may be wondering how SDN will make your daily activities easier, and what benefits it will bring your students, faculty, and staff. In this workshop you will learn about the components that make up an Agile Campus Network, and we will bring in a live system to demonstrate the following:

  • Agile Network architecture,
  • Wired and wireless convergence,
  • Free mobility,
  • Packet Conservation Algorithm for Internet (iPCA),
  • WLAN service monitoring
  • Distributed APs in static mode.

You will learn how they work in a live network environment, as well as practical advice on how to design and build your own agile network in your area of the campus. Click here to register.

About the Presenter: Lei Li is Director of Technical Solution Sales at Huawei Canada, where his team works with clients who are exploring and implementing the next generation of networks based on software-defined networking. His team has worked on networking solutions for several sites at the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, and George Brown College. Click here to register.
