The Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) team has introduced a new tool to help University of Toronto (U of T) staff troubleshoot network-related issues. The U of T Speedtest website, found at https://speedtest.utoronto.ca, is a local instance of the well-known Ookla Speedtest service for testing wired and wireless network speed and latency.
The EIS team sized the server according to Ookla’s recommendations, but may need to monitor usage and tweak the resources, depending on frequency of U of T Speedtest’s use.
When using the U of T Speedtest website, please note:
“Having a local site to connect to for campus testing removes many of the variables and inconsistencies associated with connecting to public instances across the internet,” said Director of EIS, Information Technology Services, Patrick J.A. Hopewell. “Over time, we will fine tune this tool so that we can achieve the most accurate test results possible.”
