IT@UofT strategic plan


The University of Toronto’s (U of T) IT@UofT strategic plan focuses and guides our efforts to support the University’s academic mission through information technology services, informing the vision, framework and initiatives, both within the Information Technology Services (ITS) division and across the University. Additionally, the strategic plan, directed by guiding principles, will provide a clear picture of and lead our IT investments in a rapidly evolving environment. In effect, this plan will shape IT@UofT.


IT@UofT Strategic Plan Annual Report (2022)

The IT@UofT Strategic Plan Annual Report (2022) was released on Dec. 6, 2022. It highlights ITS’ work and achievements and our collaborative efforts with unit and divisional partners. As the community’s needs for services continue to evolve and we adapt to the impacts of COVID-19, our team has been able to catalyze new project work, while maintaining core infrastructure that is the foundation of our technology ecosystem. Highlights profiled in this report feature ongoing and future projects that advance our strategic initiatives and support our core values.

Highlighted initiatives

While faculty and students’ return to campus was widely welcomed in the fall of 2022, we see a continuing demand for exploration and integration of new digital tools, processes and delivery modes. No longer reacting to the need for urgent responses during the pandemic, a refresh and a reset has been possible in recent months, aiming to empower community activity in a range of contexts.

The highlighted initiatives featured in this report are among the most impactful and of the highest strategic importance to ongoing digital transformation in the workplace. They include:

  • Digital tools to support students
  • Upgrades to tools and services to keep us connected
  • Digital transformation of enterprise platforms
  • Strategies to improve information security
  • Initiatives supporting professional development

Upcoming initiatives for 2023

The report also outlines new initiatives and areas of focus that will help advance the strategic plan over the next year. Those initiatives include:

  • Extending cloud-based data and application hosting
  • Building a proof of concept for identity management
  • Expanding information security services
  • Developing learning analytics process frameworks and infrastructure
  • Expanding digital workplace services
  • Improving enterprise administrative systems
  • Supporting student success
  • Expanding teaching and learning tools
  • Offering research and innovation resources

  • LinkedIn Learning: 837 courses completed
  • LEADS 360 Degree feedback: 35 profiles

  • Thursday@3 webinar series: 269 registrants
  • Gartner resources: 16,000 research documents & toolkits, 979 COVID-19 pandemic documents, 150 webinars & events and 42 analyst inquiries
